International Conference - Gender in Arts Criticism

The objective of this conference is to analyze the gendered dimensions of art criticism in Western countries.
Drawing on results based on empirical research in various art worlds, we would like to further analyze the role of art critics in the making of artistic careers and artistic taste from a gender perspective.
We will also try to identify ways in which arts critics themselves participate in the recognition process or whether they transgress and challenge the gendered order of artworks and artistic careers. Last, but not least, we would like to emphasise the gendered dimensions that interfere in the making of arts critics as a professional group.
